A multi-functional creative space that includes artist residencies, workshops, offices, exhibitions, a kitchen, a library, an archive, and costume storage. It aims to have a positive environmental impact through the use of low-carbon materials and sustainable design strategies.
The interior design is informed by biomimicry, drawing on the aesthetic and functional qualities of natural elements found on site, such as pigeons, sunflowers, spider webs, and shells.
Sustainable materials used throughout the space include sunflower-based hardboards and plasters made from sunflower waste. Since eggshells are rich in calcium carbonate, materials with similar properties, such as marble, onyx, travertine, limestone, and concrete, were incorporated across the interior. Eggshell decorative inlays and ceramic tiles made from eggshell powder were also used. The curved mezzanine in the basement was inspired by shell-lace structures, which achieve strength and light weight through folds and curves with thin materials. To achieve this effect, thin perforated steel sheets were used.
