Brief: Create a 3D object inspired by my fourth-year thesis project.
My thesis explores the design of a sleep retreat for individuals experiencing insomnia, as well as for those seeking a getaway focused on well-being and improved sleep.
I designed and constructed a kinetic object that embodies rhythm, movement, and light to evoke a therapeutic and mesmerising experience that encourages rest. The object features an hourglass-inspired form that rotates within a hemispherical structure made with flexible plywood and paper-mâché. This structure represents the moon, symbolising night-time and the transition into sleep. The light source within the object casts rhythmic shadows in the dark as the hourglass form rotates, promoting calmness.
