An Omakase tea experience that delivers a fusion of global tastes, a mix of cultures.
As people used to go to the Dutch Village for afternoon tea dances, I decided to bring tea back into the Dutch Village and design a tea room in the space.
I propose to provide an Omakase tea experience. ‘Omakase’ is a Japanese dining concept meaning “I’ll leave it up to you,” where customers trust the chef to select and serve the food. Inspired by this idea and influenced by Moroccan tea culture, the Fusion tea room in the Dutch Village allows tea baristas to customise and curate unique tea experiences, encouraging guests to explore a variety of flavours.
Pushing the boundaries of omakase, the space offers a refined and luxurious tea experience that allows guests to explore a range of high-quality teas in one sitting.
Natural materials used, such as wood and marble, emphasise sustainability and warmth, creating a cosy environment that helps reduce stress. The use of ramps and ground-level entryways ensures the space is accessible and inclusive for all users.
INSPIRATIONS:
- Wooden panels inspired by the idea of repetition from repeatedly stirring a cup of tea.
- Curved glass walls surround the main tea room, made with toughened glass, inspired by the form of a teacup and saucer. Allows for maximum exposure to natural light and views of nature.
- Bubble ceiling inspired by the bubbles in tea when mixed with milk
- Marble is used as an accent material, inspired by the swirling patterns created when milk is mixed into tea, while its glossy finish reflects the sheen on the surface of a cup of tea. Green and beige marble represent the natural colour variations found in different teas.
Original Boathouse space: Elite private room booked for a premium experience which includes comfortable seating with a lake view, small bites for food alongside the teas served, and the ability to see the lake under the feet through the glass floor.
Original Ice cream booth: Tea store - a small & intimate shop which adds to the uniqueness of the experience. The shelves are inspired by tea chests made from wood with metal edges.
